TOMMY COMBS born on June1, 1940; in Rockingham County, N.C. is a self-taught artist and woodcarver. He has been carving realistic waterfowl since 1983. Reading the books and instructions by carvers and authors Bill Veasy, Richard Lemaster, Robert Guge, Jim Sprankle, John Scheeler and others ,he has developed his carving skills and techniques by carving almost all the different species of ducks and several of the gueese and loons.
Initially, since it was a hobby, he gave his carvings away as gifts. Later he sold at craft shows and took commissions for specific pieces. His carvings have been shipped as far as Scotland, Japan, and India. At their request he has donated several carvings and paintings to Ducks Unlimited for thier annual auctions, raising several thousand dollars. [PLUS...]
